Slice of Life

Toresha King

My close friends and family members know that my mom was a breast cancer survivor. When my mother was diagnosed in October 2011, we relied a lot on family members, friends and neighbors to step in and provide care and encouragement while she battled the Big C. We were so fortunate to have my cousin (hey Tanjia!!) come into our home and help out while my mother went through treatment and I was away at school. One big problem - Tanjia could not, couldn't even boil water at the time LOL. Churches and neighbors came to our aid with food for my mother to eat (when treatment would allow) and a warm and friendly face. I remember my mom talking about how much these kind people meant to her. They kept her full and smiling at a time when she was battling a very scary disease.

Each year for Slice of Life, I honor those kind people and community members by selling Thanksgiving pies for Food & Friends. I understand the importance of people, communities and the work of organizations like Food & Friends.

Six days a week, Food & Friends home-delivers nutritious meals to thousands of people in our community who are too sick to shop for groceries and prepare meals. Your support helps Food & Friends deliver nearly 3,000 meals a day to our neighbors living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other serious illnesses free of charge. Each pie you purchase will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner for one client battling a serious illness. Join a community of neighbors helping neighbors by purchasing your Thanksgiving pies from me today!

For every pie purchase, I will send you a special funny pic of me/and or my mom. Maybe it's this crazy pic in my profile (yes, that baby bird, little nugget is me ha) or some other pic of me with some ridiculous hairstyle by mom.
